Family/Couples Counseling
Our primary relationships can offer the most curative experiences and become safe places for us to heal and restore from past and ongoing trauma... However, our own reactions to childhood attachment/traumas or ongoing secondary trauma (I'm lookin' at you, first responders!) can impact our daily interactions, making even a lovely relationship feel toxic.
In couples counseling, I help folks delineate their own baggage from their partner's baggage, from the world's baggage and even your mother's baggage about your baggage. It can be a lot, but don't worry, you'll have support and I have a map! Using emotionally focused therapy, internal family systems and drawing on years of learning from Gottman and associates, I help couples unpack all the things and find a calmer way of engaging and supporting each other.
A special note about couples counseling: not all insurance providers will cover couples therapy, even otherwise very good plans may not cover services designed primarily to improve communication. If you feel this service would help you, please reach out and we can discuss options.
Another special note about couples counseling: Not all couples/situations are a good fit for couples counseling. If the relationship is violent or patterns of abuse are evident, I reserve the right to refer you to specialized services. It's okay, though, together we'll find a way for everyone to feel safe and supported.
